What Jamii Pay is

Jamii Pay is software for community groups to track, reconcile and report the contributions they collect. It is not a bank, a payment provider or a wallet. Money moves directly between a contributor and the group's own M-Pesa Paybill or Till, and Jamii Pay never holds, transfers or has access to those funds.

Your account

  • Give accurate details and keep your sign-in secure. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
  • You must be at least 18, or have a parent or guardian's permission, to manage a group.

If you run a group

  • Use only Paybill and Till numbers that belong to your group. Adding a number you don't control is not allowed.
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of the records you enter, for how contributions are used, and for having a proper reason to contact the people you add as contributors.
  • Keep the roles you assign sensible. Admins can change settlement accounts and team members; give that access only to people you trust with it.
  • Expenses you record are a ledger only. Recording an expense does not move any money.

Paying through a link

When you pay through a payment link, your payment goes to the group named on the page, not to Jamii Pay. Any questions about how the money is used are for that group. Check the group's name and the amount before you enter your M-Pesa PIN.

Acceptable use

Do not use Jamii Pay to defraud anyone, to collect money under false pretences, to harass people with messages, or to attack or overload the service. We may suspend collections or accounts that do.

Availability and liability

Payments depend on third-party services such as M-Pesa, and messages on SMS and WhatsApp providers. We work to keep Jamii Pay reliable but cannot promise those services will always be available or that a message will always be delivered. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses caused by outages of those services or by information a group has entered incorrectly.

Ending your use

You can delete your account at any time from Account details. Group financial records remain with the group, as described in the privacy policy.

Changes

We may update these terms and will note the date above. Continuing to use Jamii Pay after a change means you accept it.
